What bags do I need to organise my rugs?

So one of the questions I get asked a lot is ‘what bags do i need for my rugs?’

When you are starting out with organising it can be very overwhelming to know what is the best way to categorise and store things. So to make it easier for you to get a system in place i have created a few guides.

This one is all about rugs:

Rugs can be put into 4 different categories:

Categories

  • Type / Use eg Field, stable, fly and fleeces etc
  • Weight – lightweight, medium weight and heavyweight
  • Size
  • Horse – they belong to, if you have more than one horse.

So first pick the category you want to use, and then divide your rugs into their respective piles. For Example:If you choose Type / Use then pile all your turnout rugs together, all your stable rugs together and all your fleece rugs together, and so on, until all your rugs are in piles.

If you have one horse or don’t have many rugs, this system may work perfectly for you. However if you have more than one horse or loads of rugs, it will be much more organised and easy to use if you break the categories down into sub categories, as listed below.

Sub Categories

This is all about sorting your rugs into the best system for you – and by this i mean the system that makes the most sense to you. Different people prioritise different things, and use things differently – especially rugs, so its is about what works best for you.

Now you have everything in categories you can look at each one and make a note of how many rugs are in each one, and what each category is called.

The big rug bags (Field and Stable) hold approximately 6 large rugs each – i get 6 x 6’6 / 6’9 rugs in each bag)

The small rug bags (Fleeces, Fly rugs etc) will hold approximately 3/4 rugs in each bag.

The saddlecloth bags will also hold rugs and will fit approximately 4 rugs per bag.

A great place to begin is with one of our starter kits for rugs

So now you know your categories and the amount in each one, you can easily see what type of bag you need for that category, and you also know the label to put on the bag – remember you can have any writing you want, it does not have to say Field, Stable etc. It can say heavyweight turnout rugs or Bob’s Medium weight rugs. If you want to we can put a list of all the bags that are inside the bag on there. The choice is all yours.

So if you have been struggling with all your rugs and how to organise and store them, then give this method a go, and get a system that works for you, makes sense and saves you time, space and money.

So head over to the starter kits for rugs and get organising. Don’t forget to share your before and after pictures with us.
